Happy 1st Birthday Lena
How time
quickly flies. As if i twas only like yesterday when I was in France at Cynthia
and Gregory’s house trying to help them with their newly born baby, my first
grandchild Lena. She was very tiny and such a bundle of joy. And now a one year
old baby. I didn’t see the time pass by.
We live so far from the children and we are grateful
that thru modern technology we can easily communicate with them.
Even though we are far from Lena, we see her progress
regularly and I get the chance to go to France when I get to miss her so much.
Thru Skype, I was able to teach her a song. And each
time I see her and sing her the song, she immediately reacts and starts
clapping her hands. Of course the proud mom and lola would consider little
Lena, the happy genius girl.
Two nights ago,
exactly 1:45 in the morning (almost middle of the night), Tahiti time and it’s 1:45 in the
afternoon in France, I got up of bed and
saw Cynthia online and she told me: “Would you like to talk to Lena? She’s in
good mood.” How can I refuse seeing my grandchild online at the middle of the
night? She was obviously in the mood and
was so excited and moved a lot saying a baby talk like…..ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta and
screaming at times.
Now, imagine the Lola singing action song with her apo
at unholy hour! Lolo Pogi was on the other side of the room but since I forgot
to close the door, he could hear me out load singing…..”I have two hands….the
left and the right!”
He did not complain but he just asked me gently that
the next time I talk to my apo in such a crazy hour I should go to the other
room and shut the door!
Being a grandma
would really change your way of life. When my children were still small, I was
always very careful with our expenses. I always made it a point that I don’t
buy them unnecessary things except when there’s special occassions like
birthdays or Christmas.
Now, I am reminded by her mom not to buy too much
stuff for my grandchild because she has more than enough.
I love spoiling her. That’s the role that I can’t
trade to anyone else. I can’t wait to see her and I am counting the days till
the time I get to travel for 28 hours until I reach her. Long, tiring but it is
all worth the wait and trouble.
Members of the family have even joked that no one
counts on Lola’s life anymore but her apo. How could that be? But if you see
her with her smiles, no need to ask why. She is just so adorable and can melt
everyone’s heart. That’s Lena. That’s my lovely grandchild.
They asked me, “What if other grandchildren come, what
will you do?” I will love them equally with all my heart. Children are
such blessings. For the meantime, let me
savor the joy of being a Lola with my sweet Lena.
